Description
Oxytocin is a naturally occurring nonapeptide hormone produced in the hypothalamus and released by the posterior pituitary gland. Consisting of 9 amino acids with a disulfide bridge, it is one of the most extensively studied neuropeptides in research. Studies have examined its role in social bonding, stress response modulation, hypothalamic-pituitary axis regulation, and autonomic nervous system function. Research has also focused on its role in anti-inflammatory signalling and gastrointestinal motility pathways. It is supplied in lyophilised form for research purposes.
