Description

Humanin is a 21 amino acid mitochondria-derived peptide encoded within the 16S ribosomal RNA gene of the mitochondrial genome, first identified through screening of a human brain cDNA library. Like MOTS-c, it is encoded by mitochondrial rather than nuclear DNA. Research has focused on its cytoprotective and neuroprotective properties, with studies examining its role in apoptosis inhibition, mitochondrial function, and cellular stress response pathways. It is frequently studied alongside MOTS-c in the context of mitochondrial peptide research and longevity biology. It is supplied in lyophilised form for research purposes.
